==History== The community takes its name from [[Noxapater Creek]], which flows near the site.<ref>{{cite book|last=Baca|first=Keith A.|title=Native American Place Names in Mississippi|url=https://epdf.pub/native-american-place-names-in-mississippi.html|year=2007|publisher=University Press of Mississippi|isbn=978-1-60473-483-6|page=66}}</ref> A post office was established in 1846, and the town was incorporated in 1906. Noxapater was a stop on the Mobile, Jackson and Kansas City Railroad, built in 1890.<ref>{{cite web | last = Howe | first = Tony | title = Noxapater, Mississippi | publisher = Mississippi Rails | url = http://www.msrailroads.com/Towns/Noxapater.htm | access-date =March 1, 2014}}</ref> In 1927, a mob of 1,000 white men, mostly from [[Louisville, Mississippi|Louisville]], [[Lynching in the United States|lynched]] two African-Americans, [[Lynching of Jim and Mark Fox|Jim and Mark Fox]].
