==Geography== The CDP occupies the northwestern quarter of the town of Harwinton, bordered to the north by the town of [[New Hartford, Connecticut|New Hartford]], to the northwest by the city of [[Torrington, Connecticut|Torrington]], and to the west by the town of [[Litchfield, Connecticut|Litchfield]]. The southern edge of the CDP follows [[Connecticut Route 118]] (Litchfield Road) west of [[Connecticut Route 222|Route 222]] (Hill Road), and Delay Road, Swimming Hole Road, and Shingle Mill Road east of Route 222. The eastern edge of the CDP follows Plymouth Road, Harmony Hill Road, and North Road.<ref>{{cite web| url=https://tigerweb.geo.census.gov/tigerweb/| title=TIGERweb: Northwest Harwinton, Connecticut| publisher=Geography Division, U.S. Census Bureau| access-date=October 25, 2019}}</ref> The CDP includes the Harwinton town center at the intersection of Routes 118 and [[Connecticut Route 4|4]], as well as the residential community surrounding Lake Harwinton. Route 4 leads east {{convert|20|mi}} to [[West Hartford, Connecticut|West Hartford]] and northwest {{convert|5|mi|0}} to Torrington, while Route 118 leads west {{convert|8|mi|0}} to [[Litchfield (borough), Connecticut|Litchfield borough]], and Route 222 leads south {{convert|7|mi|0}} to [[Thomaston, Connecticut|Thomaston]]. According to the [[U.S. Census Bureau]], the Northwest Harwinton CDP has a total area of {{convert|22.8|sqkm|order=flip}}, of which {{Convert|22.5|sqkm|order=flip}} are land and {{convert|0.3|sqkm|order=flip|1}}, or 1.25%, are water.<ref name="Census 2010"/> The [[Naugatuck River]] forms the western edge of the CDP and the town of Harwinton.
