==Geography==
North Spearfish is located in northern Lawrence County at {{coord|44|30|29|N|103|53|7|W|type:city}} (44.507983, -103.885173),<ref name="GR1">{{cite web|url=https://www.census.gov/geographies/reference-files/time-series/geo/gazetteer-files.html|publisher=[[United States Census Bureau]]|access-date=2011-04-23|date=2011-02-12|title=US Gazetteer files: 2010, 2000, and 1990}}</ref> on the northwest side of the city of [[Spearfish, South Dakota|Spearfish]], the largest community in the county. [[Interstate 90]] runs along the northern edge of the CDP, with access from Exit 8 (McGuigan Road). I-90 leads southeast {{convert|50|mi}} to [[Rapid City, South Dakota|Rapid City]] and west {{convert|90|mi}} to [[Gillette, Wyoming]]. [[U.S. Route 85]] departs from I-90 at the northeast corner of North Spearfish, leading north {{convert|10|mi|0}} to [[Belle Fourche, South Dakota|Belle Fourche]].

According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the North Spearfish CDP has a total area of {{convert|8.0|sqkm|order=flip}}, all land.<ref name="CenPopGazetteer2019">{{cite web|title=2019 U.S. Gazetteer Files|url=https://www2.census.gov/geo/docs/maps-data/data/gazetteer/2019_Gazetteer/2019_gaz_place_46.txt|publisher=United States Census Bureau|access-date=December 31, 2020}}</ref> The community drains northward via Higgins Gulch to Spearfish Creek, a north-flowing tributary of the [[Redwater River]], which in turn is a northeast-flowing tributary of the [[Belle Fourche River]], which runs east to the [[Missouri River]].
