== History == In its early history, North Aurora was known as "Schneider's Mill" or "Schneider's Crossing" after John Peter Schneider, a [[German Americans|German immigrant]] who established a mill and dam on the [[Fox River (Illinois River tributary)|Fox River]] after moving to the area in 1834.<ref>{{cite web |url= http://local.townsquarepublications.com/illinois/northaurora/main.html |title= North Aurora Introduction |website= Town Square Publications |date= 2010}}</ref><ref>{{cite book |url= https://books.google.com/books?id=cpIAyAIWV64C |title=North Aurora: 1834β1940, Images of America |first1= Jim |last1= Edwards |first2= Wynette |last2= Edwards |publisher= Arcadia Publishing |year= 2006 |ISBN= 978-0-7385-4108-2}}</ref> Schneider Elementary School, on the east side of the Fox River, is named after him.
