==Route description== [[File:2018-08-09 16 27 21 View north along New Jersey State Route 50 just north of U.S. Route 9 (Shore Road) in Upper Township, Cape May County, New Jersey.jpg|thumb|left|View north along Route 50 at US 9 in Upper Township]] Route 50 begins at an intersection with [[U.S. Route 9 in New Jersey|US 9]] in the [[Seaville, New Jersey|Seaville]] section of [[Upper Township, New Jersey|Upper Township]], [[Cape May County, New Jersey|Cape May County]], heading to the north on a two-lane undivided road. From the southern terminus, a ramp provides access to the southbound [[Garden State Parkway]] and from the northbound Garden State Parkway. The road heads north through mostly rural wooded areas with some buildings.<ref name=SLD/><ref name="google">{{google maps |url=https://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=route+9+and+route+50+ocean+view,+nj&daddr=39.402244,-74.746857+to:US-30+%26+NJ-50,+Egg+Harbor+City,+Atlantic,+New+Jersey+08215&geocode=%3B%3BFVApWwId1_eM-w&hl=en&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=10&via=1&sll=39.368279,-74.62738&sspn=0.469258,0.88028&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=10|title=overview of New Jersey Route 50 |access-date=2009-07-30}}</ref> It intersects CR 671 in [[Greenfield, New Jersey|Greenfield]] before coming to a junction with CR 616.<ref name=SLD/> Later, Route 50 crosses the [[Cedar Swamp Creek]] in an area of marshland. At this crossing, the road runs closely parallel to the Beesleys Point Secondary railroad line operated by the [[Cape May Seashore Lines]] railroad before entering [[Petersburg, Cape May, New Jersey|Petersburg]], where it splits from the railroad tracks and comes to a crossroad with CR 610. Upon leaving Petersburg, Route 50 turns to the north again and crosses over the Beesleys Point Secondary, intersecting CR 631. It continues to [[Tuckahoe, New Jersey|Tuckahoe]] and comes to CR 669. Past this intersection, the route meets [[County Route 557 (New Jersey)|CR 557]] and CR 664.<ref name=SLD/><ref name="google"/> Route 50 forms a [[concurrency (road)|concurrency]] with CR 557 and the two routes head north and encounter the eastern terminus of [[New Jersey Route 49|Route 49]] before leaving Tuckahoe.<ref name=SLD/> Not far after Route 49, the road crosses the [[Tuckahoe River (New Jersey)|Tuckahoe River]] into [[Corbin City, New Jersey|Corbin City]], [[Atlantic County, New Jersey|Atlantic County]].<ref name=SLD/> In Corbin City, it heads into residential areas, with CR 611 looping to the west of the route. Route 50 and CR 557 continue northwest and intersect CR 648, where the road turns north into more forested areas. At the junction with CR 645, the route turns to the northeast and enters [[Estell Manor, New Jersey|Estell Manor]], becoming Broad Street.<ref name=SLD/><ref name="google"/> CR 557 splits from Route 50 by heading northwest on Buena Tuckahoe Road and Route 50 heads through some agricultural clearings concurrent with [[County Route 557 Truck (New Jersey)|CR 557 Truck]], passing to the west of the [[MacNamara Wildlife Area]], which is known as a breeding ground for several species of birds.<ref name=SLD/><ref name="google"/><ref name=nja>{{cite web|url=http://www.njaudubon.org/SectionIBBA/IBBASiteGuide/tabid/1258/Scope/site/sk/3031/Default.aspx|title=Lester G. MacNamara (Tuckahoe) Wildlife Management Area|publisher=[[New Jersey Audubon Society]]|access-date=2009-09-25}}</ref> The route intersects CR 637, turning to the northeast.<ref name=SLD/><ref name="google"/> [[File:2018-09-15 10 14 51 View north along New Jersey State Route 50 and Atlantic County Route 557 just north of Atlantic County Route 648 (Head of River Road) in Corbin City, Atlantic County, New Jersey.jpg|thumb|right|Route 50 northbound past CR 648 in Corbin City]] After passing some homes and Stephen Lake, the road turns to the north and passes to the west of Estell Manor County Park.<ref name="google"/><ref name=acnj>{{cite web|url=http://www.aclink.org/PARKS/mainpages/estell.asp|title=Estell Manor Park|publisher=[[Atlantic County, New Jersey]]|access-date=2009-09-25}}</ref> The route crosses the [[South River (Great Egg Harbor River)|South River]] into [[Weymouth Township, New Jersey|Weymouth Township]], passing the residential community of [[Belcoville, New Jersey|Belcoville]] to the east and meeting CR 669.<ref name=SLD/><ref name="google"/> It soon enters [[Hamilton Township, Atlantic County, New Jersey|Hamilton Township]], where the name of the road becomes Mill Street and it comes to a junction with [[U.S. Route 40 in New Jersey|US 40]] (Harding Highway).<ref name=SLD/> CR 557 Truck heads to the west on US 40 at this point while Route 50 heads east on US 40, and CR 616 continues north.<ref name=SLD/><ref name="google"/> US 40 and Route 50 follow the Harding Highway, a two-lane undivided road, turning to the northeast and crossing the [[Great Egg Harbor River]]. Upon passing over the river, enters [[Mays Landing, New Jersey|Mays Landing]] and turns north, encountering CR 617 before passing over an abandoned railroad line and heading into the downtown area of Mays Landing.<ref name=SLD/><ref name="google"/> Here, the road crosses [[County Route 559 (New Jersey)|CR 559]], and US 40 splits from Route 50 by turning east along that road.<ref name=SLD/> Meanwhile, Route 50 continues north on Cape May Avenue, passing through developed areas.<ref name="google"/> It leaves Mays Landing and heads into back into forests. The route turns to the northeast, passing near the Clover Leaf Lakes residential development, before coming to a [[diamond interchange]] with [[U.S. Route 322 in New Jersey|US 322]] ([[Black Horse Pike]]).<ref name=SLD/><ref name="google"/> [[File:NJ 50 SB past US 30-CR 563.jpeg|left|thumb|Route 50 southbound past its northern terminus at US 30 and CR 563 in Egg Harbor City]] Past this interchange, Route 50 widens to a four-lane [[divided highway]] and reaches a [[partial cloverleaf interchange]] with the [[Atlantic City Expressway]]. The route becomes a two-lane undivided road again and continues through inhabited areas, crossing into [[Galloway Township, New Jersey|Galloway Township]], where there is an intersection with CR 686.
