==Nomenclature==
The word ''Navajo'' is an [[exonym]]: it comes from the [[Tewa language|Tewa]] word {{lang|tew|Navahu}}, which combines the roots {{lang|tew|nava}} ('field') and {{lang|tew|hu}} ('valley') to mean 'large field'.
