==History== Milton was settled in 1785 and founded in 1789, at which time it was still part of [[Virginia]]. A ferry with [[Madison, Indiana]], on the opposite side of the [[Ohio River|Ohio]] began service in 1804. [[Milton-Madison Bridge|A bridge]] connecting them was constructed in 1929.<ref name=mps>Johnson, William Gus. Accessed 6 August 2012.</ref>{{rp|8}} One of Milton's earliest newspapers, the Milton Free Press, was established in 1879 by Lewis P. Sarlls.<ref>Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Trimble Co.</ref> The city has endured many floods and most of its riverside downtown has been repeatedly destroyed, leaving little historic architecture. Some exceptions are [[Ginn's Furniture Store]], [[Rowlett's Grocery]], and [[Milton Masonic Lodge and County General Store|County General Store]], all of which are located on Main Street.<ref name=mps />{{rp|5}} Areas just south of Milton were hit by an intense EF3 tornado on [[Tornado outbreak of March 2β3, 2012|March 2, 2012]].
