==History== The first settlement at Metamora was made in the 1830s.<ref>{{cite book|last=Reighard|first=Frank H.|title=A Standard History of Fulton County, Ohio (Volume 1)|url=http://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=hvd.hx2zl7;view=1up;seq=348|year=1920|publisher=Lewis Publishing Company|page=316}}</ref> A post office called Metamora has been in operation since 1841.<ref>{{cite web | url=http://www.postalhistory.com/postoffices.asp?task=display&state=OH&county=Fulton | title=Fulton County | publisher=Jim Forte Postal History | access-date=January 25, 2016}}</ref> The name of Metamora is from a very popular 1829 play titled ''[[Metamora; or, The Last of the Wampanoags]]'', by [[John Augustus Stone]], that had a stage run over 60 years.<ref>{{Cite web|url=http://resources.osv.org/explore_learn/document_viewer.php?DocID=2068|title=Metamora, Last of the Wampanoags}}</ref> This play inspired four new Midwestern towns to adopt the name Metamora β Metamora, Ohio in the 1830s, [[Metamora Township, Michigan]] in 1838 after the 1836-37 [[Toledo War]] caused the removal of Metamora from [[Michigan Territory]] to Ohio, [[Metamora, Indiana]] also in 1838, and [[Metamora, Illinois]] in 1845.
