==Geography== Mechanicsburg is located in eastern Cumberland County at {{coord|40.212089|-77.006143|type:city_region:US|format=dms|display=inline}}.<ref name="GR1">{{cite web| url=https://www.census.gov/geographies/reference-files/time-series/geo/gazetteer-files.html| publisher=[[United States Census Bureau]]| access-date=2011-04-23| date=2011-02-12| title=US Gazetteer files: 2010, 2000, and 1990}}</ref> It is in a rich agricultural region known as the [[Cumberland Valley]], a broad zone between [[South Mountain (Maryland and Pennsylvania)|South Mountain]] and the [[Ridge-and-Valley Appalachians]]. Mechanicsburg is bordered by [[Silver Spring Township, Pennsylvania|Silver Spring Township]] to the northwest, [[Monroe Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania|Monroe Township]] to the southwest, [[Upper Allen Township, Pennsylvania|Upper Allen Township]] to the south, [[Lower Allen Township, Pennsylvania|Lower Allen Township]] to the east, and [[Hampden Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania|Hampden Township]] to the northeast. [[Pennsylvania Route 641]] (Trindle Road) is the main east–west street through the borough, leading east {{convert|4|mi|0}} to [[Camp Hill, Pennsylvania|Camp Hill]] and west {{convert|10|mi|0}} to [[Carlisle, Pennsylvania|Carlisle]], the [[county seat]]. [[Pennsylvania Route 114]] leads north out of town on York Street and south on Market Street. The [[Pennsylvania Turnpike]] ([[Interstate 76 (east)|I-76]]) passes just south of Mechanicsburg, with access to the southeast of town via Exit 236 ([[U.S. Route 15]]).
