Mead Township was created on June 7, 1847, from parts of [[Sheffield Township, Warren County, Pennsylvania|Sheffield]], [[Kinzua Township, Warren County, Pennsylvania|Kinzua]], and [[Pleasant Township, Warren County, Pennsylvania|Pleasant]] Townships. In the early 1960s, construction began on the [[Kinzua Dam]] and a few small communities on the banks of the [[Allegheny River]] were evacuated and flooded.
