== Early life == Ashley was born in [[Saint Andrew Parish, Jamaica|St. Andrew]], [[Jamaica]]. While at City College, he represented the school in intercollegiate team competition. Ashley said he discovered chess in Jamaica, where his brother played chess with his friends.
