==Early life and education==
Lipman was born on 10 May 1946 in [[Kingston upon Hull|Hull]], [[East Riding of Yorkshire]], England, the daughter of Maurice Julius Lipman and Zelma Pearlman.<ref name="Filmref">{{cite web|url=http://www.filmreference.com/film/49/Maureen-Lipman.html|title=Maureen Lipman biography|work=filmreference.com|access-date=7 February 2018}}</ref> Her father was a tailor; he used to have a shop between the [[Ferens Art Gallery]] and Monument Bridge.
