He then served in the [[United States Navy|US Navy]] from 1944 to 1945. He received a B.A. in mathematics from [[Harvard University]] in 1950 and a [[Doctor of Philosophy|Ph.D.]] in mathematics from [[Princeton University]] in 1954. Minsky was on the [[MIT]] faculty from 1958 to his death. He joined the staff at [[MIT Lincoln Laboratory]] in 1958; a year later, he and [[John McCarthy (computer scientist)|John McCarthy]] initiated what was, {{as of|2003|lc=y}}, named the [[MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory]].<ref>{{cite journal |last=Horgan |first=John |date=November 1993 |title=Profile: Marvin L.
