Lisco was laid out in 1909 when the [[Union Pacific Railroad]] was extended to that point.<ref>{{cite book|last=Shumway|first=Grant Lee|title=History of Western Nebraska and Its People|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=7RM1AQAAMAAJ&pg=PA263|year=1921|publisher=Western publishing & engraving Company|page=263}}</ref> The community was named after Reuben Lisco, a cattleman who owned about {{convert|40000|acre|ha}} of land in the area, including the land on which the town currently stands. Mr.&nbsp;Lisco later became the president of the Lisco State Bank.<ref>{{cite book
