==Etymology==
The English word ''lion'' is derived via [[Anglo-Norman language|Anglo-Norman]] {{lang|xno|liun}} from [[Latin]] {{lang|la|leōnem}} (nominative: {{lang|la|leō}}), which in turn was a borrowing from [[Ancient Greek]] {{lang|grc|λέων}} {{lang|grc-Latn|léōn}}.
