Li was born as '''Li Yuanpeng''' ({{zh|t=李遠芃|p=Lǐ Yuǎnpéng|labels=no}}) at his family house in [[Shanghai French Concession]], now in 545 Yanan Road, Huangpu District in Shanghai.
