==History== The land for Lee, [[Muscogee County, Georgia|Muscogee]], [[Troup County, Georgia|Troup]], [[Coweta County, Georgia|Coweta]], and [[Carroll County, Georgia|Carroll]] counties was [[cession|ceded]] by the [[Creek people]] in the 1825 [[Treaty of Indian Springs (1825)|Treaty of Indian Springs]]. The counties' boundaries were created by the [[Georgia General Assembly]] on June 9, but they were not named until December 14, 1826.<ref>{{cite book | url=https://books.google.com/books?id=REtEXQNWq6MC&pg=PA236 | title=Historical Gazetteer of the United States | publisher=Routledge | date=May 13, 2013 | access-date=November 30, 2013 | author=Hellmann, Paul T. | pages=236| isbn=978-1135948597 }}</ref> The county was named in honor of [[Henry Lee III]], popularly known as "Light-Horse Harry," the father of [[Confederate States Army|Confederate]] general [[Robert E.
