== History == Ledston is first mentioned in 1086, and on through the Middle Ages, in forms like ''Ledestun(e)'', ''Ledestona''.<ref>{{cite book|last1=Ekwall|first1=Eilert|title=The concise Oxford dictionary of English place-names|date=1960|publisher=Clarendon Press|location=Oxford|isbn=0-19-869103-3|page=293|edition=4}}</ref> The name seems to refer to Leeds (or the Old English precursor of this name, ''Loidis'', which denoted a region rather than a town), meaning the ''tΕ«n'' ('settlement, estate') belonging to Leeds.<ref>{{cite book|last1=Watts|first1=Victor|last2=Insley|first2=John|last3=Gelling|first3=Margaret|title=The Cambridge dictionary of English place-names : based on the collections of the English Place-Name Society|date=2004|publisher=Cambridge University Press|location=Cambridge|isbn=9780521362092|page=366|edition=2}}</ref> [[Mary Pannal]] of Ledston was executed in 1603 as an accused witch.
