The mayor of Lebanon in 1955 was Chester Keith, who couldn't go due to his age. When visiting [[Jerusalem]], then partitioned between [[Israel]] and [[Jordan]], Harris accidentally crossed the border and was shot to death by a Jordanian soldier.
