==History==
Langley, still located at its original site, is on [[Oklahoma State Highway 82|State Highway 82]] at the west end of the [[Pensacola Dam]], which is on the [[National Register of Historic Places listings in Mayes County, Oklahoma|National Register of Historic Places]]. The dam holds back the [[Grand Lake o' the Cherokees]] (also known simply as Grand Lake).<ref name="OHS"/> Dam construction started in 1935.<ref name="OHS"/> Cliff Bogle, the original owner in the area, divided his land into lots, and in 1937 the town was established with a public dedication and drawing for free lots.<ref name="Langley"/> The town was named for Oklahoma State Senator [[J. H. Langley|J. Howard Langley]].<ref name="Langley">{{cite web |url=https://www.langleyok.org/history.html| title=Langley History |publisher=Town of Langley, Oklahoma |accessdate=March 9, 2020}}</ref> Langley incorporated on November 20, 1939, and a post office was established on January 20, 1939.<ref name="OHS">{{cite web |url=https://www.okhistory.org/publications/enc/entry.php?entry=LA019 | title=Langley|publisher=Dorothy Dell Welsh, Oklahoma Historical Society|accessdate=March 9, 2020}}</ref> The dam was completed in 1941, and the town began to promote itself to the recreation industry.<ref name="OHS"/>
