==History== Lake Wilson was platted in 1883 and incorporated as a village on July 12, 1900. It was named by J. E. Wilson (a landowner in the area) who also named the nearby lake for himself.<ref>{{cite book|author=Chicago and North Western Railway Company|title=A History of the Origin of the Place Names Connected with the Chicago & North Western and Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis & Omaha Railways|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=OspBAQAAMAAJ&pg=PA180|year=1908|page=180}}</ref> On June 16, 1992, Lake Wilson was struck by a [[1992 Chandler–Lake Wilson tornado|devastating F5 tornado]] that completely destroyed half of the town, which has since been rebuilt. On January 12, 2004, the city's firehall exploded, destroying it and the nearby [[grain elevator|elevator]]. It also damaged many nearby houses and businesses. The blast was audible at {{convert|25|mi}}, and could be felt as far as {{convert|30|mi}} away.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.keloland.com/newsdetail.cfm/lake-wilson-explosion/?id=22,29345|title=Lake Wilson Explosion|accessdate=August 14, 2014|author=Jodi Schwan}}</ref><ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.disasternews.net/news/article.php?articleid=1675|title=Explosion rocks tiny MN town|accessdate=August 14, 2014|author=Susan Kim}}</ref> The city estimated that recovery costs resulting from the explosion totaled about $4.2 million. Since then both the firehall and elevator have been rebuilt.
