Kimbolton was originally called "Liberty", and under the latter name was [[plat]]ted in 1828. In March 2004, the electorate voted to surrender the corporate powers of the Village of Kimbolton to the trustees of [[Liberty Township, Guernsey County, Ohio|Liberty Township]].
