==Life and career== Kidd was born in [[New Orleans]] and raised in [[Mandeville, Louisiana]]. She graduated from [[Brigham Young University]] and was baptized in the [[The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints|LDS Church]].<ref name=obit/><ref>{{usurped|1=[https://web.archive.org/web/20000818091458/http://www.adherents.com/lit/bk_Kidd.html adherents.com entry on the Kidds]}}</ref> Raised a [[Protestantism|Protestant]], Kidd is quoted as converting because she wanted a [[patriarchal blessing]], but couldn't receive one unless she was a baptized member of the [[The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints|LDS faith]]. Upon receiving her bachelor's degree, Kidd reported for the ''[[Deseret News]]'' in [[Salt Lake City]]. During this time, she became friends with Orson Scott Card, who was then an assistant editor for the official LDS magazine, ''[[The Ensign of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints|The Ensign]]''.<ref name="obit" /> After Kathryn married Clark Kidd, the two worked with Card on a project for [[Compute!]] Books. Clark programmed the games in a series while Kathy wrote the directions.<ref name=":0">Card, Orson Scott. Forward. ''Paradise Vue,'' by Kathryn H. Kidd, 1989, pp. viii-xv. </ref> The couple moved to Virginia in 1987.
