Kaolinite is also occasionally discussed under the [[archaism|archaic name]]s '''lithomarge''' and lithomarga from [[Latin]] {{lang|la|lithomarga}}, a combination of {{lang|la|litho-}} ({{langx|grc|{{linktext|λίθος}}}}，{{translit|grc|líthos}}, "stone") and {{lang|la|marga}} ("[[marl]]").
