Hunnewell served as a shipping point for [[Texas]] cattle, and was a prosperous cowtown during the 1880s. The [[Leavenworth, Lawrence and Galveston Railroad]] provided quick access to the [[Kansas City, Kansas]] stockyards, and the [[Blackwell and Southern Railway#Kansas and Southeastern Railroad|Kansas and Southeastern Railroad]] was built south from Hunnewell into Oklahoma in 1898.<ref name=Railroads1>{{cite web|url= https://digitalprairie.ok.gov/digital/collection/okresources/id/70278  |title= The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company  |publisher= Railroads of Oklahoma, June 6, 1870-April 1, 1978, pp. 29-38 (accessed on Oklahoma Digital Prairie)  |accessdate= March 24, 2023}}</ref><ref>{{cite web|url=  https://www.okhistory.org/publications/enc/entry?entry=BR004 |title=Braman|publisher=Oklahoma Historical Society|accessdate=March 23, 2023}}</ref>  The town in its heyday had one [[hotel]], two [[general stores]], one [[Barber|barber shop]], two [[dance hall]]s, and eight [[Western saloon|saloon]]s. With little more than railroad workers and cowboys, violence was common. There were no lawmen to speak of during the 1880s in or around that area, and typically [[cattle rustling]] and other crimes were dealt with by the ranchers themselves.
