==History== The village takes its name from Nehemiah Hubbard, Jr., a [[Connecticut Land Company]] agent from [[Middletown, Connecticut]].<ref>{{cite book|last=Overman|first=William Daniel|title=Ohio Town Names|url=https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=mdp.39015015361465;view=1up;seq=78|year=1958|publisher=Atlantic Press|location=Akron, OH|page=62}}</ref> Hubbard led a surveying party of which Samuel Tylee, also from Middletown, was a member of. Tylee became the township's first settler in 1801, with his family.<ref name="brief">{{cite web|url=https://beyond-books.org/sites/default/files/migrated//BRIEFHISTORYOFHUBBARD.pdf |title=A Brief History of Hubbard |author=Stewart, Della Hibler |publisher=Hubbard Public Library |access-date=February 1, 2023 }}</ref> Many of the early settlers were farmers from New Jersey who cleared the forested area for crop production.
