==Geography==
According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the CDP has a total area of {{convert|15.87|sqmi|sqkm|2}}, of which {{convert|15.67|sqmi|sqkm|2}} is land and {{convert|0.20|sqmi|sqkm|2}} (1.26%) is water.<ref name=CENS/>  Holt is the [[List of census-designated places in Michigan|second most-populated CDP]] (after [[Forest Hills, Michigan|Forest Hills]]) and the fifth largest by area in the state of Michigan.

The community is south of [[Lansing, Michigan|Lansing]], just south of [[Interstate 96|I-96]] between [[U.S. Route 127 in Michigan|US-127]] and [[M-99 (Michigan highway)|M-99]]. The city of [[Mason, Michigan|Mason]] is about {{convert|6|mi|0}} southeast, and the village of [[Dimondale, Michigan|Dimondale]] is about {{convert|6|mi|0}} west.

Holt is home to an ancient [[esker|glacial esker]].
