The three species, ''[[Haematomyzus elephantis]]'' (elephant louse), ''[[Haematomyzus hopkinsi]]'' (warthog louse) and ''[[Haematomyzus porci]]'' ([[red river hog]] louse) belong to a single family, the Haematomyzidae, itself the only family within Rhynchophthirina.<ref>{{cite web |last1=Smith |first1=V.
