==Geography== Green Valley is located along the western side of the Santa Cruz River at (31.8556, -111.0001). Continental is to the east of Green Valley, on the other side of the river. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 26.3 mi2, of which 26.2 mi2 is land and 0.04 mi2 (0.08%) is water. Green Valley is 20 mi south of Tucson and 40 mi north of Nogales, Sonora, Mexico. Surrounded by copper mines, and near the cycling, hiking and birding areas of the Santa Rita Mountains, Green Valley is an unincorporated retirement community composed of 59 Homeowner Associations. The largest of the mines are the Sierrita Mine owned by Freeport-McMoRan and the Mission Mine of ASARCO. Compared to other mines in Arizona the two mines are large; Sierrita is low-grade. ===Climate=== Green Valley has a borderline hot semi-arid/hot desert climate (Köppen BSh/BWh) with three seasons: a warm to mild winter with chilly nights from October through March; a hot, extremely dry summer season from April to late June; and a hot, relatively humid monsoon season from July through September. Outside monsoon season, rainfall is uniformly scarce, having exceeded 4.0 in only in October 2000 amongst other months. The wettest month on record has been July 1990 with 10.43 in, of which 3.22 in fell on July 15. The wettest calendar year has been 1993 with 22.00 in while the driest since 1988 has been 1997 with 9.90 in. Temperatures are uniformly hot during the summer and monsoon seasons, with 90 F exceeded on 154 days during an average year, and 77 nights failing to fall below 70 F, including every night during August 2011. Frosts occur 37 nights per winter on average, and daytime highs fail to top 50 F on nine days. <div style="width:75%;"> {{Weather box |location = Green Valley, Arizona (1988-2016) |single line = Yes |Jan record high F = 88 |Feb record high F = 90 |Mar record high F = 95 |Apr record high F = 100 |May record high F = 108 |Jun record high F = 111 |Jul record high F = 110 |Aug record high F = 108 |Sep record high F = 106 |Oct record high F = 102 |Nov record high F = 93 |Dec record high F = 85 |year record high F = 111 |Jan high F = 67.5 |Feb high F = 69.8 |Mar high F = 76.1 |Apr high F = 82.3 |May high F = 91.6 |Jun high F = 100.1 |Jul high F = 98.6 |Aug high F = 97.0 |Sep high F = 94.4 |Oct high F = 86.1 |Nov high F = 75.9 |Dec high F = 66.2 |year high F = 83.5 |Jan low F = 36.9 |Feb low F = 39.6 |Mar low F = 45.5 |Apr low F = 51.4 |May low F = 59.5 |Jun low F = 69.1 |Jul low F = 73.6 |Aug low F = 71.9 |Sep low F = 67.1 |Oct low F = 55.3 |Nov low F = 44.2 |Dec low F = 36.3 |year low F = 54.1 |Jan record low F = 17 |Feb record low F = 16 |Mar record low F = 29 |Apr record low F = 31 |May record low F = 44 |Jun record low F = 52 |Jul record low F = 60 |Aug record low F = 60 |Sep record low F = 50 |Oct record low F = 33 |Nov record low F = 22 |Dec record low F = 21 |year record low F = 16 |Jan rain inch = 0.78 |Feb rain inch = 0.81 |Mar rain inch = 0.67 |Apr rain inch = 0.27 |May rain inch = 0.19 |Jun rain inch = 0.35 |Jul rain inch = 3.41 |Aug rain inch = 2.79 |Sep rain inch = 1.52 |Oct rain inch = 1.06 |Nov rain inch = 0.60 |Dec rain inch = 0.94 |rain colour = green |Jan rain days = 4 |Feb rain days = 4 |Mar rain days = 4 |Apr rain days = 2 |May rain days = 1 |Jun rain days = 2 |Jul rain days = 11 |Aug rain days = 10 |Sep rain days = 5 |Oct rain days = 4 |Nov rain days = 2 |Dec rain days = 4 |unit rain days = 0.01 inch |source 1 = Tucson National Weather Service }} </div>
