==History== [[File:Four Gable Place, Geneva on the Lake LCCN2007661172.tif|thumb|left|Four Gable Place (1913)]] Settlement of the original area known as the [[Connecticut Western Reserve]] started in the early 1800s, as investors, farmers, and frontiersmen from [[New England]] and the [[Mid-Atlantic (United States)|Mid-Atlantic]] began to farm in the area and capitalize on the natural resources of [[Lake Erie]] and its shoreline.<ref name=koile>{{cite book|last1=Koile|first1=Wendy|title=Geneva on the Lake: A History of Ohio's First Summer Resort|date=2012|publisher=The History Press|location=Charleston, SC|isbn=978-1-60949-487-2|pages=15β17}}<!--|access-date=21 November 2014--></ref>{{rp|15β17}} Industry along the lake shore continued to develop, including a lime burning business along Cowles Creek on the west,<ref name=koile />{{rp|19}} along with small-scale lumber processing and ship building at Indian Creek on the east.<ref name=koile />{{rp|23}} In 1869, Cullen Spencer and Edward Pratt purchased property known as Sturgeon Point (now Mapleton Beach) and opened it as a public picnic grounds with beach access.<ref name=koile />{{rp|29}} Later, a pony-powered carousel of sorts would be added which later help establish the town as Ohio's first summer resort.<ref name=koile />{{rp|29}} In order to accommodate more visitors, residents built and established boarding houses and inns;<ref name=koile />{{rp|29β30}} the first being what is now the Jennie Munger Gregory Museum.<ref name=koile />{{rp|27}} Vacation residences continued to grow and expand through the early 1900s to include places such as the Idle-A-While and Shady Beach Inn.<ref name=koile />{{rp|35β37}} Erieview Park was started in 1945 by E.M.
