==History== Fredonia was laid out in 1886.<ref>{{cite book|title=The Utah Genealogical and Historical Magazine, Volumes 9-10|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=L7M3AQAAIAAJ&pg=RA1-PA128|year=1918|page=128}}</ref> Its name is said to mean the "land of free women."<ref name="azrep_88"/> The town's cemetery<ref>[http://fredoniaaz.net/Departments/Cemetery.aspx Town of Fredonia β Cemetery]</ref> has graves dating from the 1880s.<ref>{{GNIS|2789785|Fredonia Cemetery}}</ref> The town suffered economically from the re-routing of [[U.S. Route 89 in Arizona|U.S. 89]] in 1960.
