==History== Fessenden was founded in 1893 with the arrival of the [[Minneapolis, St. Paul and Sault Ste. Marie Railroad]] into the area. In 1894, the county seat was transferred to Fessenden from [[Sykeston, North Dakota]]<ref>{{cite book | url=https://books.google.com/books?id=REtEXQNWq6MC&pg=PA836 | title=Historical Gazetteer of the United States | publisher=Routledge | date=May 13, 2013 | accessdate=30 November 2013 | author=Hellmann, Paul T. | pages=836| isbn=978-1135948597 }}</ref> and the [[Wells County Courthouse (North Dakota)|Wells County Courthouse]] was built the next year.
