The [[BBC|British Broadcasting Corporation]] (BBC) was willing to host the contest instead of the previous year's winner {{Esccnty|France}}'s {{lang|fr|[[Radiodiffusion-Télévision Française]]|i=no}} (RTF), as was the case in {{escyr|1960}}. They would do so again in {{escyr|1972}}, {{escyr|1974}}, and {{escyr|2023}} because the winning broadcasters of the previous year declined to produce the contest. The host venue was the [[Television Centre, London|BBC Television Centre]], [[White City, London|White City]], [[London]], which opened in 1960. It is one of the most readily recognisable facilities of its type having appeared as the backdrop for many BBC programmes.
