The contest took place in London, United Kingdom. Although the {{Esccnty|Netherlands|y=1959}} had won the {{escyr|1959||1959 contest}}, the Dutch broadcaster {{lang|nl|[[Nederlandse Televisie Stichting]]|i=unset}} (NTS) declined to stage the event for a second time in three years, after hosting the {{escyr|1958||1958 edition}} in [[Hilversum]]. The rights to stage the contest subsequently passed to the United Kingdom's [[BBC|British Broadcasting Corporation]] (BBC), following their second place finish in the previous year's event, a decision which was announced in October 1959.<ref name="ESC1960" />{{sfn|Roxburgh|2012|pp=213–214}}

The [[Royal Festival Hall]] was chosen to stage the 1960 contest.
