==Geography== U.S. Route 70 passes through downtown, leading west 39 mi to Safford, Arizona, and southeast 35 mi to Lordsburg, New Mexico, and Interstate 10. Arizona State Route 75 leads north from Duncan 28 mi to Clifton. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town of Duncan has a total area of 5.6 km2, all of it land. ===Climate=== Duncan has a semi-arid climate (KΓΆppen climate classification BSk) with huge diurnal temperature ranges year-round except during periods of thundery monsoon weather. In April the average diurnal range is as high as 43.7 F and it is only less than 36 F in the often stormy months of July and August when over a third of the year's total rainfall can be expected. During a typical year 131.6 nights will fall below 32 F, but only 7.8 days fail to top 50 F, and there are only seven occurrences of nights falling to 0 F or lower, notably on December 24, 1953, and January 11, 1962, when the record low of was set. Rainfall is generally scanty outside of the monsoon season, with substantial falls from winter storms being rare, although December 1991 did see 4.76 in of rain. The wettest month since continuous records began in 1942 has been August 2014 with 6.17 in, whilst the wettest calendar year has been 1983 with 18.88 in and the driest 1956 with 3.49 in. Snowfall is most unusual, with the median being zero and the mean only 0.5 in. The most snowfall ever in Duncan was 15.0 in during the record Western cold wave of January 1949. <div style="width:75%;"> {{Weather box |location = Duncan, Arizona (1971β2000; extremes 1901β2001) |single line = Yes |collapsed = Yes |Jan record high F = 80 |Feb record high F = 85 |Mar record high F = 95 |Apr record high F = 100 |May record high F = 108 |Jun record high F = 111 |Jul record high F = 110 |Aug record high F = 107 |Sep record high F = 103 |Oct record high F = 99 |Nov record high F = 87 |Dec record high F = 78 |year record high F = 111 |Jan high F = 60.0 |Feb high F = 65.0 |Mar high F = 71.0 |Apr high F = 79.3 |May high F = 87.7 |Jun high F = 96.9 |Jul high F = 97.1 |Aug high F = 94.4 |Sep high F = 90.1 |Oct high F = 80.3 |Nov high F = 68.2 |Dec high F = 59.6 |year high F = 79.1 |Jan low F = 23.7 |Feb low F = 26.5 |Mar low F = 31.0 |Apr low F = 35.6 |May low F = 44.6 |Jun low F = 53.6 |Jul low F = 63.3 |Aug low F = 62.2 |Sep low F = 54.2 |Oct low F = 41.0 |Nov low F = 28.5 |Dec low F = 22.9 |year low F = 40.6 |Jan record low F = β2 |Feb record low F = β1 |Mar record low F = 9 |Apr record low F = 13 |May record low F = 22 |Jun record low F = 32 |Jul record low F = 42 |Aug record low F = 39 |Sep record low F = 34 |Oct record low F = 17 |Nov record low F = 6 |Dec record low F = β2 |year record low F = β2 |Jan rain inch = 0.96 |Feb rain inch = 0.94 |Mar rain inch = 0.62 |Apr rain inch = 0.24 |May rain inch = 0.38 |Jun rain inch = 0.38 |Jul rain inch = 2.26 |Aug rain inch = 2.18 |Sep rain inch = 1.06 |Oct rain inch = 1.30 |Nov rain inch = 0.77 |Dec rain inch = 1.19 |rain colour = green |Jan rain days = 5.0 |Feb rain days = 4.5 |Mar rain days = 4.1 |Apr rain days = 1.5 |May rain days = 1.9 |Jun rain days = 2.2 |Jul rain days = 8.5 |Aug rain days = 8.5 |Sep rain days = 4.6 |Oct rain days = 4.4 |Nov rain days = 2.9 |Dec rain days = 4.7 |unit rain days = 0.01 inch |source 1 = National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration }} </div>
