The genera ''[[Eosiren]]'', ''[[Eotheroides]]'', and ''[[Prototherium]]'' have been assigned to Halitheriinae in the past, but recent cladistic analysis recovers these genera as basal to the clade formed by Trichechidae and Dugongidae.
