==Geography== Dix is located in northern Jefferson County at {{coord|38|26|26|N|88|56|33|W|type:city}} (38.440676, -88.942463).<ref name="GR1">{{cite web|url=https://www.census.gov/geographies/reference-files/time-series/geo/gazetteer-files.html|publisher=[[United States Census Bureau]]|accessdate=April 23, 2011|date=February 12, 2011|title=US Gazetteer files: 2010, 2000, and 1990}}</ref> [[Illinois Route 37]] is the village's Main Street, leading south {{convert|9|mi|0}} to [[Mount Vernon, Illinois|Mount Vernon]], the [[county seat]], and north {{convert|13|mi}} to [[Salem, Illinois|Salem]]. [[Interstate 57]] passes through the western side of the village, with access from Exit 103. I-57 leads south {{convert|7|mi|0}} to [[Interstate 64]] at Mount Vernon and north {{Convert|55|mi}} to [[Interstate 70]] at [[Effingham, Illinois|Effingham]]. Today Dix is an exit on Interstate 57, a major north–south roadway. When it was founded, however, it was on the Goshen Road, which was the main east–west road in Illinois, running from [[Old Shawneetown, Illinois|Old Shawneetown]] on the [[Ohio River]] to near [[East St. Louis, Illinois|East St. Louis]] on the [[Mississippi River|Mississippi]].
