The term ''diagonal matrix'' may sometimes refer to a '''{{visible anchor|rectangular diagonal matrix}}''', which is an {{mvar|m}}-by-{{mvar|n}} matrix with all the entries not of the form {{math|''d''<sub>''i'',''i''</sub>}} being zero.
