==Geography==
According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the city has a total area of {{convert|25.182|sqmi|sqkm|2}}, of which {{convert|23.419|sqmi|sqkm|2}} is land and {{convert|1.763|sqmi|sqkm|2}} is water.<ref name="CenPopGazetteer2023"/> On January 15, 2003, the city's most recent geographical expanse extended its boundaries.

Fernbrook Lane (County 121); North Diamond Lake Road (County 144); South Diamond Lake Road; and Dayton River Road (County 12) are four of the main routes in Dayton.  [[Interstate 94 in Minnesota|Interstate 94]] and [[County Road 81 (Hennepin County, Minnesota)|County Road 81]] pass briefly through the southwest corner of Dayton.  Brockton Lane (County 13) runs north-south along Dayton's western boundary line with adjacent city of [[Rogers, Minnesota|Rogers]].

The neighboring cities are [[Champlin, Minnesota|Champlin]], [[Rogers, Minnesota|Rogers]], [[Maple Grove, Minnesota|Maple Grove]], [[Anoka, Minnesota|Anoka]], [[Ramsey, Minnesota|Ramsey]], [[Elk River, Minnesota|Elk River]], and [[Otsego, Minnesota|Otsego]].  [[Corcoran, Minnesota|Corcoran]] is nearby, but does not border Dayton.

Dayton is located at the confluence of the [[Mississippi River|Mississippi]] and [[Crow River (Minnesota)|Crow]] Rivers.
