Crystal River is located northwest of the center of Citrus County at {{coord|28.900670|-82.593699|type:city_region:US|format=dms|display=inline}},<ref name="GR1">{{cite web|url=https://www.census.gov/geographies/reference-files/time-series/geo/gazetteer-files.html|publisher=[[United States Census Bureau]]|access-date=2011-04-23|date=2011-02-12|title=US Gazetteer files: 2010, 2000, and 1990}}</ref> on the northeast side of Kings Bay and the [[Crystal River (Florida)|Crystal River]], an inlet of the [[Gulf of Mexico]]. U.S. Routes [[U.S. Route 19 in Florida|19]] and [[U.S. Route 98 in Florida|98]] pass through the center of the city, leading south {{convert|7|mi|0}} to [[Homosassa Springs, Florida|Homosassa Springs]] and north {{convert|46|mi}} to [[Chiefland, Florida|Chiefland]]. [[Florida State Road 44|State Road 44]] leads east from Crystal River {{convert|17|mi}} to [[Inverness, Florida|Inverness]], the Citrus County seat.
