==Geography== The township is in central Mackinac County, bordered to the west and south by Moran Township and to the east by St. Ignace Township. It is bordered to the north by Trout Lake Township in Chippewa County. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Brevort Township has a total area of 98.84 sqmi, of which 92.48 sqmi are land and 6.36 sqmi (6.43%) are water. Highway M-123 passes diagonally southeast–northwest through the township, and U.S. Route 2 and Interstate 75 are just outside of the township boundaries to the south and east. === Communities === * Allenville was a station on the Detroit, Mackinac and Marquette Railroad less than one mile southeast of Moran at . It was founded by J. Alley, head of the Alley Lumber Company in 1873. A post office operated from December 1873 until October 1891. Also known as "Alley Town", the community was almost destroyed by fire in 1882. * Moran is an unincorporated community on M-123 at approximately 13 mi northwest of St. Ignace. Confusingly, the community is not a part of Moran Township, which is adjacent to Brevort Township on the south and west. It was initially called "Jacob City", after the president of the German Land Company of Detroit, which sold land to members in 1881–83. In 1883, Jacob was accused of fraud and ousted from the organization. Another member of the group, William B. Moran, loaned the group funds to buy additional land, and the settlement was renamed after him in 1883. A post office named "Jacob City" was established in February 1882 and renamed "Moran" in January 1883. The office was transferred to and renamed "Allenville" in April 1898, but a Moran post office was re-established in May 1910. The name of Moran Township and other nearby places named Moran such as East Moran Bay in St. Ignace, West Moran Bay on Lake Michigan, and the Moran River all have a different origin, and instead derive from the French Morin. ===Climate=== {{Weather box <!-- Infobox begins --> | single line = Y | location = Moran, Michigan (1991–2020) <!-- Average high temperatures --> | Jan high F =25.9 | Feb high F =28.2 | Mar high F =37.2 | Apr high F =48.4 | May high F =61.9 | Jun high F =72.0 | Jul high F =76.6 | Aug high F =76.0 | Sep high F =68.3 | Oct high F =54.6 | Nov high F =42.0 | Dec high F =32.2 <!-- Mean daily temperature --> | Jan mean F =16.6 | Feb mean F =17.6 | Mar mean F =26.1 | Apr mean F =38.2 | May mean F =50.5 | Jun mean F =60.3 | Jul mean F =65.4 | Aug mean F =64.7 | Sep mean F =57.3 | Oct mean F =45.1 | Nov mean F =34.5 | Dec mean F =24.3 <!-- Average low temperatures --> | Jan low F =7.2 | Feb low F =6.9 | Mar low F =15.1 | Apr low F =27.9 | May low F =39.0 | Jun low F =48.5 | Jul low F =54.1 | Aug low F =53.5 | Sep low F =46.3 | Oct low F =35.6 | Nov low F =27.0 | Dec low F =16.4 <!-- Total precipitation, this should include rain and snow. --> | precipitation colour = green | Jan precipitation inch =2.19 | Feb precipitation inch =1.58 | Mar precipitation inch =2.01 | Apr precipitation inch =3.14 | May precipitation inch =2.55 | Jun precipitation inch =2.85 | Jul precipitation inch =3.20 | Aug precipitation inch =3.29 | Sep precipitation inch =3.92 | Oct precipitation inch =4.25 | Nov precipitation inch =3.38 | Dec precipitation inch =2.62 <!-- Snowfall --> | Jan snow inch =20.4 | Feb snow inch =14.8 | Mar snow inch =9.8 | Apr snow inch =6.8 | May snow inch =0.0 | Jun snow inch =0.0 | Jul snow inch =0.0 | Aug snow inch =0.0 | Sep snow inch =0.0 | Oct snow inch =0.4 | Nov snow inch =7.4 | Dec snow inch =21.3 <!-- Mandatory fields, source --> | source = NOAA }}<!-- Infobox ends -->
