==History==
Ashby was [[plat]]ted in 1879, and named for Gunder Ash, an early Norwegian settler.<ref>{{cite book|last=Upham|first=Warren|authorlink=Warren Upham|title=Minnesota Geographic Names: Their Origin and Historic Significance|url=https://archive.org/details/minnesotageogra00uphagoog|year=1920|publisher=Minnesota Historical Society|page=[https://archive.org/details/minnesotageogra00uphagoog/page/n232 213]}}</ref>  To this day, roughly half the city's population is of Norwegian heritage. On July 8, 2020, areas north of Ashby were struck by a [[2020 Ashby–Dalton tornado|violent EF4 tornado]].
