==Geography==
Anson is located in central Jones County. Three [[U.S. highways]] pass through the city. U.S. Routes [[U.S. Route 83 in Texas|83]] and [[U.S. Route 277 in Texas|277]] run north–south through the center as Commercial Avenue, while [[U.S. Route 180 in Texas|U.S. Route 180]] crosses on 17th Street. US 83 leads northwest {{Convert|36|mi}} to [[Aspermont, Texas|Aspermont]], while US 277 leads northeast {{convert|15|mi}} to [[Stamford, Texas|Stamford]], and the highways together lead southeast {{convert|24|mi}} to [[Abilene, Texas|Abilene]]. US 180 leads east {{convert|36|mi}} to [[Albany, Texas|Albany]] and west {{convert|61|mi}} to [[Snyder, Texas|Snyder]].

According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], Anson has a total area of {{convert|7.2|km2|order=flip}}, of which {{convert|8855|sqm|acre|order=flip|1}}, or 0.12%, are water.<ref name="CenPopGazetteer2019"/> The city is part of the [[Brazos River]] watershed, with the southeastern corner of the city crossed by Carter Creek, and the northern part draining to Redmud Creek.
