==History== The town was established between 1848 and 1849 by [[Joseph Watt (pioneer)|Joseph]] and [[Ahio S. Watt]], two brothers who had immigrated to Oregon over the [[Oregon Trail]].<ref name=Oregon>Corning, Howard M. ''Dictionary of Oregon History''. Binfords & Mort Publishing, 1956.</ref> Part of Joseph's [[Donation Land Act|land claim]] became the community's townsite.<ref name=Oregon/> The name "Amity" came from the name of a school that was built by two rival communities after the amicable settlement of a dispute.<ref name="OGN">{{cite book | last = McArthur | first = Lewis A. | author-link = Lewis A.
