==Geography== Altheimer is part of the [[Arkansas Timberlands|Timberlands Region]], an area rich in natural resources that was discovered by [[American pioneer|pioneers]] from the [[Eastern United States|eastern states]] in the early 19th century. Retrieved January 15, 2016.</ref> Altheimer is in northeastern Jefferson County, {{convert|14|mi}} northeast of [[Pine Bluff, Arkansas|Pine Bluff]], the [[county seat]]. [[U.S. Route 63]]/[[U.S. Route 79|79]] runs along the northwestern edge of the city, leading southwest to Pine Bluff and northeast {{convert|11|mi}} to [[Humphrey, Arkansas|Humphrey]]. [[Little Rock, Arkansas|Little Rock]], the state capital, is {{convert|50|mi}} to the northwest by road. According to the [[United States Census Bureau|U.S. Census Bureau]], Altheimer has a total area of {{convert|5.6|sqkm|order=flip}}, of which {{convert|5.4|sqkm|order=flip}} are land and {{convert|0.2|sqkm|order=flip|1}}, or 3.22%, are water.<ref name="Census 2010"/> Flat Bayou winds through the center of the city, flowing north toward Wabbaseka Bayou, which in turn flows southeast via a succession of names to the [[Arkansas River]].
