==Geography==
According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the township has a total area of {{convert|40.3|sqmi|km2}}, of which {{convert|40.3|sqmi|km2}}  is land and {{convert|0.04|sqmi|km2}}  (0.05%) is water.

Allegany Township is bordered by [[Genesee Township, Potter County, Pennsylvania|Genesee Township]] to the north, [[Ulysses Township, Pennsylvania|Ulysses Township]] to the east, [[Sweden Township, Pennsylvania|Sweden Township]] to the south and [[Hebron Township, Potter County, Pennsylvania|Hebron Township]] to the west.

Cobb Hill, located in this township, is part of the [[Continental divide|St. Lawrence River Divide]]. Its north slope is the headwaters of the West Branch of the [[Genesee River]] while the south slope contains the headwaters of the [[Allegheny River]].
