== Early life and amateur career ==
Argüello was born April 19, 1952. His father was a shoemaker. His mother's name was Zoila.<ref name="auto">{{Cite web|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9C66nhA93sU|title=CBS Sports Alexis Arguello|date=3 March 2019 |via=www.youtube.com}}</ref> Argüello had a troubled childhood, growing up in abject poverty in Managua. When he was 5 years old, his father attempted suicide.
