== Etymology == Different etymologies have been proposed for the name Agamemnon (grc). According to one view, the name means 'very steadfast', 'unbowed' or 'resolute'. This is based on the interpretation of the name as a compound word comprising the elements grc 'very much' and grc 'to stay, wait; stand fast'. According to another view, the name developed from the unattested form *grc (*grc), a compound word composed of the elements grc 'very much' and grc 'to think on, provide for', with the overall meaning of 'very mindful'. Yet another proposal derives the second part of the compound word from grc 'to be inclined, to wish eagerly, to strive' for the overall meaning of 'very eagerly wishing'. Linguist Václav Blažek proposes a relationship with Vedic Sanskrit Agni on etymological and functional bases.
