==Geography==
Ackerman is located in southeast of the present-day center of Choctaw County. [[Mississippi Highway 15]] passes through the town, leading north {{convert|16|mi}} to [[Mathiston, Mississippi|Mathiston]] and south {{convert|15|mi}} to [[Louisville, Mississippi]] (pronounced Lewis-ville).

[[Mississippi Highway 12]] passes through the northwest corner of the town, leading northeast {{convert|24|mi}} to [[Starkville, Mississippi|Starkville]], where [[Mississippi State University]] is located and southwest {{convert|31|mi}} to [[Kosciusko, Mississippi|Kosciusko]]. [[Mississippi Highway 9]] heads north from Highway 12 in the northwest corner of Ackerman, leading {{convert|17|mi}} to [[Eupora, Mississippi|Eupora]].

According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the town has a total area of {{convert|5.87|km2|disp=flip}}, of which {{convert|5.82|km2|disp=flip}} is land and {{convert|0.05|sqkm|disp=flip|2}}, or 0.85%, is water.<ref name="Census 2010"/> The town is located near the headwaters of the [[Yockanookany River]], a tributary of the [[Pearl River (Mississippi–Louisiana)|Pearl River]].
