Teams qualified for the 2002 Tour de France by various methods.<ref name="cnpreview"/> {{UCI team code|USP|2002}} was selected because it included the winner of the previous edition, [[Lance Armstrong]]. {{UCI team code|RAB|2002}} was selected because it included the winner of the [[2001 UCI Road World Cup]], [[Erik Dekker]]. {{UCI team code|ALB|2002}}, {{UCI team code|KEL|2002}} and {{UCI team code|GCE|2002}} were selected because they won the [[Team classification in the Tour de France|team classification]]s in respectively the [[2001 Giro d'Italia]], [[2001 Tour de France]] and [[2001 Vuelta a España]].
